Cardiac Assessment and Treatment
Cardiovascular diseases are diseases and injuries of the cardiovascular system: the heart, the blood vessels of the heart and the system of blood vessels throughout the body and within the brain. Disorders of the heart lead to heart disease and cardiovascular disease and can lead to a significant number of deaths.
Since 1952, the cardiovascular death rate in Canada has declined by more than 75 per cent and nearly 40 per cent in the last decade, largely due to research advances in surgical procedures, drug therapies and prevention efforts.
The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of:
- Congenital Heart Defects
- Coronary Artery Disease
- Heart Failure
- Valvular Heart Disease
